WK 15 Reflections
Saturday, January 26th at 10 am the children and their families celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Expect a little apprehension from the children; however, that’s normal when encountering a new experience. It’s reassuring to them to know of our love and support during this time. The sacrament is one of many occasions of their experience of God’s grace at work in them, their families and throughout our parish community.
Their first reconciliation is another step in faith formation, and a witness to the promise you made at their Baptism to raise your children in our Catholic Faith. Savor that moment when we gather around the baptismal pool at the beginning of the Rite of First Reconciliation this Saturday.
Last Sunday, the children of Level 7 assisted with sacramental preparation. Working one-on-one, the older children talked with the younger ones about their experience of First Reconciliation as they prompted the children with writing an “I am sorry” prayer. The presence of the older children helped to create a meaningful activity for the younger ones as they ready their hearts for reconciliation. The sharing concluded with the older children blessing the younger ones. Many thanks to Elvira Carrizal-Dukes and her junior catechist, Evan. Heart-felt thanks to Violette and Sophia, Level 2 junior catechists who also assisted with this week’s activity.
A Final note…On Saturday we will use a worship aid for the Rite of Reconciliation. If you need a quick review with your child, Chapter 12, We Celebrate the Sacrament of Forgiveness; and, Lesson 8 – A Brand New Beginning [First Penance packet distributed at the parent meeting last October] walks you through the process. If you have any questions or concern please don’t hesitate to talk with me or Sr. Christina.
This final week of preparation let us keep each other in prayer. Let us pray for our children, for all children that they may grow in a profound awareness of God’s healing love and mercy manifested in and through our relationships. May Saturday’s Rite of First Reconciliation nurture within them and all of us our call to forgive others as Jesus has forgiven us. Together we pray, OUR Father…
