The last of the four part lesson on the Mass -The children worked in small communities; their task: design a poster to illustrate the post Communion Rite – We are Sent Forth... to love and serve God. The kids presented both their masterpieces and “theological interpretation.” Their artistic expressions captured the heart of Jesus’ Gospel message. Comments were enduring…a couple of posters included dialogue of reaching out to give money to the poor, to feed the hungry, to help families, the sick, kids who are bullied to “taking care of nature.”
Their posters illustrated the story retold from Matthew’s Gospel, “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters you do unto me.” As they are sent forth to share God’s Love to discover Jesus in the poor, the hungry, those who are lonely and afraid, the sick…
After class, one little girl came to me with such enthusiasm insisting that I stop and read the dialogue on her poster: “Are you hungry?” “Yes, very.” “Here is some food.” Thank You!” These kids bring their gifts to the class – their faith sharing, the questions, wonder and awe…all are different manifestations of God’s self- communication through the experience and faith of our children.
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me…”
